Online Modules: Starting Points and Possibilities in Developing Natural Peer Support Programs
These five modules, from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s PaTTAN (Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network) project, address developing structures within schools that promote inclusion, learning, and relationships between students with and without disabilities. The modules feature our project consultant, Dr. Erik Carter, and will help school staff learn more about how natural peer supports can be helpful in the classroom and beyond. Modules are 16 to 32 minutes long.

Kentucky Youth Advocacy Project
The Kentucky Youth Advocacy Project website has many resources designed to:
1) assist students (age 8-21) with disabilities to learn how to be more self-determined (being actively involved in decisions which affect their lives) and to become self-advocates (e.g. choosing their own learning and personal goals, monitoring their own progress, etc.) and
2) assist teachers, speech language pathologist and parents learn how they can help their students/children become more self-determined and to self-advocate.
The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program is a student-led initiative aimed at promoting social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities affecting systems-wide change. With sports as the foundation, the three component model: Whole School Engagement, Inclusive Youth Leadership and Unified Sports offers a unique combination of effective activities that equip young people with tools and training to create sports, classroom and school climates of acceptance.
Kentucky Regional Special Education Cooperatives
Beginning in the Fall 2018, the Kentucky Department of Education will work to fulfill the requirements of Senate Joint Resolution 52 (passed unanimously by the KY House and Senate in Spring 2018) by having the Regional Special Educational Cooperatives take the lead role in working with schools within their respective regions in implementing peer support arrangements and peer networks.
