We are excited to welcome you to another year of the Kentucky Peer Support Network (KYPSN) project! Although this is our final funding year, our project will live on through the ongoing work of our pilot sites, the regional Special Education Cooperatives, and training modules we are developing. We look forward to sharing the amazing work that our pilot sites are doing and hope to make Peer Networks and Peer Support Arrangements available to students at schools throughout the state. Will your school join us?
If you think back to your most pleasant experiences in school, odds are that those memories will include your friends. In short, friends are what make schools so enjoyable, and their absence is what makes schools oftentimes so lonely for students with significant disabilities. This message is at the heart of why we are doing what we are doing. Collaboratively with paraprofessionals, special education teachers, other school staff, and same-age peers with and without disabilities, we are looking to increase social and academic outcomes for students with significant disabilities.
Below, you will find our regional training schedule. Trainings were held throughout the state in 2014 and 2015, and have been attended by over 400 people from 128 school teams. We invite you (and a team from your school) to attend our 2016 regional trainings and see the benefits of our program firsthand. Our trainings are generally scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., are FREE, and include lunch! Administrators qualify for five hours of EILA credit.
